Caps on Fire Holtby and Green

Don’t look now DMV but your Washington Capitals have taken over sole position of first place in the Southeast Division. Yes, it’s true, the team that started off so poorly and struggled learning their second system within one year has put it all together and has reached it’s potential at the right time.

With the regular season ending April 27th and the NHL playoffs right around the corner, the Washington Capitals are the team no one wants to play. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games which has surged them to the Southeast Division crown and the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Caps have been playing great hockey and have been on fire on the ice. My main reasons for this are 4 fold:

1. Ovechkin has finally become comfortable with the system and is playing like the Ovy of years past. Ovy is ending the season on a hot streak. He has had nine points in the last 10 games.

2. Holtby has undoubtedly become the shut down Goalie for the Washington Capitals. Holtby has started 10 straight games. He’s 7-2-1 with 2.25 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in that time.

3. The return of Brooks Laich to the line up on March 19th has brought the Capitals the inspirational leader they’ve been missing while he was out with injury.

4. The return of Mike Green. There is no doubt the Capitals are a better team when their best offensive defenseman is on the ice. It’s been another injury riddled season for Green, but he’s gotten healthy at the right time for the Capitals. He’s scored 5 goals in the last four games for the Capitals.

With 11 games left on the slate before the playoffs start, the Caps are putting things together all at the right time.

Look out NHL, here come the Washington Capitals!
