I can’t really say I am sad to see Henry Rodriguez traded from the Nationals. But I can’t say I’m happy either.

It’s not everyday that you get a 100mph fire baller to walk through your doors. Henry Rodriguez just had one problem as a closer…he had no clue where that 100mph fastball was going to end up. It was a roller coaster ride every time he stepped onto the mound.

What did we get for him? We got 22-year old Minor League right-hander Ian Dickson. Dickson is in his second season in the Minors. He has a 6.88 ERA, averaging 8.2 K/9 and 6.1 BB/9 with a 2-2 record in 11 games in class A ball.

I really feel this was a trade for age and future potential. With Rodriguez being in his 5th season in the Majors and still not showing he is anywhere near getting his control together, taking a chance on a 22-year-old sounds like a good idea. It still could not have been easy for management to let a 100mph fastball go for what seems like so little.

I don’t think we will see Dickson in the Majors anytime soon, but you never know. We will keep you posted with his progress.
