John’s Byrne’ing hot picks
7-9 against the spread is not the best way to start off the season and tough for any bet maker to swallow, then again, it is hard to pick every game and have a stellar week. Biggest surprises to me were the Saints, Eagles, and Panthers not covering, but now we know the Redskins could be legit, Mike Vick is on the decline and the Panthers are in trouble.
For this week there are some juicy games that will hopefully put me above .500.
Bears @ Packers (-6)
Although the Bears looked good in week 1, the Packers don’t fall twice at home.
Bucs @ Giants (-7.5)
Giants respond to a lackluster start.
Cardinals @ Patriots (-14)
The Cardinals defense held the Seahawks to only 16 points in week 1- that will not happen this week. I more than likely pick the Patriots to cover every time as long as Tom Brady is in the lineup.
Vikings @ Colts (+1.5)
Adrian Peterson is healthier than everyone expected. Colts D cannot contain him.
Saints @ Panthers (+3)
I like the matchup of the Panthers offense against the Saints defense but the Saints offense proves to be more potent in this matchup.
Chiefs @ Bills (-3)
Bills D did not look as good as advertised in week 1. They look to rebound and build on CJ Spiller’s big game with Fred Jackson hurt.
Ravens @ Eagles (-2.5)
I like the Ravens catching points against the Eagles with Maclin out. Flacco outplays Vick as the Eagles look for answers.
Raiders @ Dolphins (+2.5)
JJ Watts from the Texans said he learned the Dolphins snap count off of Hard Knocks. Carson Palmer learned that the defense is terrible.
Browns @ Bengals (-7)
Bengals are the best team in Ohio by far.
Texans @ Jaguars (+7.5)
Texans lucked out and started the season with the easiest schedule ever. This game ends up being a blowout.
Cowboys @ Seahawks (+3)
I like the Seahawks to win straight up. The Cowboys second road game in 2 weeks plus they have historically done poorly in Seattle.
Redskins @ Rams (+3)
Stephen Jackson is the only RB to run for 1,100 yards each of the past 6 seasons, the Skins will be tested after only seeing a couple runs from the Saints. The game is close but:
Jets @ Steelers (-6)
I like the Steelers duo of receivers going against the Jets without Revis Island.
Titans @ Chargers (-6)
Jake Locker’s hurt non throwing shoulder won’t affect the team as much as the nonexistent running game from Chris Johnson.
Lions @ 49ers (-6.5)
Calvin Johnson is limited in practice and the 49ers are coming off a big win. Lions need to keep the run game going to stay in it but that is a huge task against last year’s #1 ranked defense.
Broncos @ Falcons (-3)
Peyton Manning plus the points in primetime.
