John’s Byrne’ing hot picks
With the regular officials back from their lockout hopefully my picks will not be altered by poor officiating (see Packers @ Seahawks). After going 8-8 last week, I am still sitting at an even .500 (24-24). One game does not really stand out to me this week but hopefully I can turn things around.
Week 4 Picks:
Browns @ Ravens (-12)
The Ravens at home last Sunday against the Patriots was the loudest I have ever heard an NFL stadium, at least on TV. If Tom Brady can’t go in there and win, I do not think Brandon Weeden can come close.
Patriots @ Bills +4
With CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson out, Fitzpatrick has thrown for under 200 yards a game. If the Bills have to lean on his arm I don’t see them being successful.
Panthers @ Falcons (-7.5)
If you saw the way Cam looked after they got man handled by the Giants, after this game he may need to be put on suicide watch.
Vikings @ Lions (-5)
Christian Ponder continues to impress but will have to win a shootout against Detriot’s high powered offense. I like the Vikings getting the points.
49ers @ Jets +4
With Revis Island being done for the season, the 49ers receivers will be traveling to The Meadowlands Endzone.
Chargers @ Chiefs (Even)
The Chiefs are first in rushing, but the Chargers are 4th in rushing defense. After being drummed against Atlanta last weekend I think the Chargers bounce back.
Titans @ Texans (-12)
Last week the Titans showed they can put up points, but they also showed that their defense is miserable. Matt Schaub is coming off a career performance but I like the Titans to cover.
Seahawks @ Rams +3
If the Seahawks defense plays like they did in the first half of the Monday night game, they could actually be a decent team this year.
Dolphins @ Cardinals (-6.5)
The Cards looked strong last week and with Reggie Bush questionable I would take them minus the points.
Raiders @ Broncos (-6.5)
Sad to see my boy DHB go down last weekend but the Raiders squeaked out a win against a good Steelers team. I like the silver and black as my upset of the week.
Bengals @ Jaguars +2.5
After what the Bengals did to the Redskins I hope they can beat the Jags by 3.
Saints @ Packers (-7.5)
This game will be nothing like the thriller that opened the 2011 season a year ago. Saints look miserable and meanwhile the Packers will be thirsty for blood after the Monday night debacle.
Redskins @ Bucs (-3)
I’ve been disappointed the past two weeks.
Giants @ Eagles (-1)
I predict Mike Vick gets injured this game as we learned in last week that he has very little pocket presence and he is least effective out of a 3 step drop.
Bears @ Cowboys (-3.5)
I can’t pick the Skins to lose and the Cowboys to win.
