Doug Williams Redskins Robert Griffin III

25 years ago today, Doug Williams led the Washington Redskins to a 42-10 Super Bowl victory over the Denver Broncos.

For those of us who were too young to remember (or were not alive) to see Doug Williams play for the Redskins, it sounds like Sunday will be a good chance to catch some footage and interviews from the past.

According to Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post, ESPN will be airing a 7 minute segment on Sunday about Williams’ impact on the game that will be narrated by none other than Robert Griffin III:

The racial angle, in other words, was right there in the forefront. And when ESPN decided to revisit that moment on its Super Bowl Sunday edition of Sunday’s NFL Countdown — focusing on how Williams changed the perception of black quarterbacks — they asked RGIII to provide narration. He agreed; the seven-minute piece, with Griffin’s narration, will air this weekend.

This should be a nice reminder of some of the successful history of the franchise. Being only 3 years old at the time, I can’t wait to see some of the footage and hear some of the interviews from back in the day.

It may not fully give us our Robert Griffin III off-season fix, but it is nice that Robert is embracing the history of the organization and can take part in this piece.
