Skins Camp

With the preseason starting tonight, the Washington Redskins have a lot of intriguing battles going on within the organization. We all know about the struggles with the o-line and the fact that they just can’t stay healthy, but there are other questions and battles going on inside of this young promising team.

(1)  The Secondary: This year’s defensive backfield has more depth then it’s had in a very long time. We know the guys that have been here before, like DeAngelo Hall, Reed Doughty, and Josh Wilson.  My question is at safety, because the departure of LaRon Landry leaves the Skins with a pretty big hole to fill. Brandon Meriweather can play both positions and let’s not discount the play making ability of Madieu Williams.

Prediction: Meriweather SS….Tanard Jackson FS (if Jackson is healthy)

(2)  The Health of Leonard Hankerson: I just learned recently learned that “Hank Time” is still not 100% and has been practicing hurt. Hankerson spoke on 106.7 The Fan’s The Holden and Danny Show and said that “if you don’t play hurt, you’re not going to be here”. Admirable, or a costly mistake that just might haunt him for the upcoming season….you be the judge.

Prediction: As serious as his injury was last year, Hank is better off being a rotational WR

(3)  The Health of Josh Morgan: Another hurt WR, Morgan came to the burgundy and gold with a prior injury to his knee costing him his starting role with the 49ers. Now hampered with a hamstring injury that has kept him out of numerous practices, Morgan aims to play in the preseason opener. I personally think the Redskins should hold him out until the next preseason game to see what a week of practice could do for him.

Prediction: A healthy Josh Morgan…is a scary 2nd WR

(4)  The kicking situation: Last years starter Graham Gano has defeated all on comers at training camp that the Shanahans have thrown at him in the past years. But this year he has a proven kicker in Neil Rackers that he has to compete with. Gano has had his shining moments, but also his heartbreaking ones too. He has been our most consistent kicker (years wise) since Shaun Suisham and Brett Conway. But Rackers knows how to get it done in the clutch and its going to be very interesting seeing who starts week one.

Prediction: Gano Defeats another!!

Me with Danny Smith — who is going to have a tough decision to make

Now is the fun part!! I’ve wanted to save this for a week before the season starts but I can’t wait!!
