Yesterday, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III made a surprise visit to the media room in Richmond to release a statement. He wanted to make clear where he stands in this media developed rift between he and head coach Mike Shanahan.
He addressed something that’s been being discussed and written about in the media since his press conference Monday afternoon. He let it be known to all in the media that if there’ s any questions about if there’s a rift between him and Mike Shanahan or if the media wants to dream up conflict, there is no conflict. Griffin stated the following:
I just needed to address something was said or something that’s been going along in the media since I had my press conference. I just want everybody to know if there’s any questions about if there’s a rift between me and Coach or if there’s a conflict there is no conflict” Griffin said. “Coach is Coach. I’m the player. Coach has a plan and I’m abiding by that plan. I’m doing everything the coaches are asking me to do. I trust those guys. They want me to have a long career and that’s what part of this plan is about.
I voiced my opinion about it because I was asked about it. That’s been twisted and turned and tried to put against this team and that’s not what we want. Like I said Coach is Coach. Kirk, Rex and Pat have done a great job all offseason with the team getting in and out of the huddle and making plays and it’s an honor for me to be in the quarterback room with those guys.
He understands that HE is not the Coach, the Coach is the Coach. He is the PLAYER. As we all know, Shanahan and the team doctors along with Dr. James Andrews have a plan and RGIII says he is abiding by that plan.
Robert has to know, and according to his statement he does, that their plan is not just about him being ready enough to participate in practice or a meaningless preseason game but its about being ready for the season and his long term career.
Before leaving the media, RG3 let it be known it is an honor for him to be apart of the Washington Redskins and he finished up by letting everyone know how excited he is about getting to participate in 11 on 11 team drills and this season.
