Wednesday Wizards Report
Happy Hump Day Wiz fans! Since last week the Wizards have gone 2-2 and have looked great at times, but they have also looked like a team with an 11-32 record at times. They’ve looked like a playoff caliber team when they dismantled the T-Wolves and when they held the playoff bound Bulls to only 73 points. But then signs of the lottery bound Wizards came to the surface when we put up a stinker of a first half and dug ourselves too deep of a hole to overcome in Utah, and then again when we lost another one score game to the Kings in the 4th quarter.
Tonight the Wiz travel to Philadelphia to take on the 76ers. They will be looking to rebound after Monday’s tough loss against the Kings with a Philly team that is only 4-9 since the calendar turned to 2013. It’s been over three weeks since the Wizards lost consecutive games and they should be playing angry after they let Monday’s game slip through their fingers. Tonight’s game, and the next couple games for that matter, could be a little tougher as the Wiz could be without sweet shooting rookie Bradley Beal. Brad’s wrist is still giving him problems as he sat out yesterdays practice and it sounds like he may have to sit to let his wrist heal. This could be a tough blow, but as Michael Lee reported, since Beal injured his wrist his scorching January numbers have dropped dramatically. His scoring average has dropped by over 10 points a game, his FG % has dropped by 12% and his 3-point percentage has dropped by 30% in January! If his wrist is bothering him that bad though, I think it is time to rest him and deploy of heavy dose of Steez (Jordan Crawford).
After tonight’s Sixers game, the Wiz have two very tough road games. Friday they head to Memphis to face a Grizzlies team that is currently 4th in the West and are top dogs in the league in points allowed. After the Grizzlies game, the Wizards head to San Antonio to take on the Spurs Saturday night. The Spurs boasts the best record in the West, are first in the league in assists per game, and are 9th in points allowed. After the Wiz mini three game road trip, they head back to the Phone Booth to battle the Clippers and both New York teams followed up with a road game against the Bucks. Talk about a tough stretch.
But as I noted before they haven’t lost back-to-back games in over three weeks and this will be a great test for us. There have been many a rumblings, including from myself, about the possibility of the Playoffs. Well, this next 7-game stretch will give us a clearer picture if our Playoffs hopes are for real or just a pipe dream. So strap in, lace up your #WizGear, and get ready to cheer our boys on during this tough stretch.
Until next Wednesday, Stay Steezy my friends!
