Last night, as expected, the Washington Redskins selected Robert Griffin III with the second overall pick in the 2012 draft. Griffin represents a new hope for Redskins fans, and immediately becomes the face of the franchise, if not the face of all DC area sports.
I know the Redskins can usually be classified as off-season Super Bowl winners, but this time it seems different. Robert Griffin should immediately give Washington a reliable fixture at the most important position. No more shuffling in a combo of Rex Grossman and John Beck and having Mike Shannahan tell us it’s all good. I imagine at this point, you would be hard pressed to find a Redskins fan who is not excited about having Griffin under center.
Here are a few screen shots we took last night during the draft:
And then there was this guy…….

Do we start RG3 immediately?
I think so, if he comes into camp and has the playbook down….and shows he is immediately going to be an upgrade from Grossman, then yeah he starts right away. There will definitely be some growing pains, but what rookie doesn’t have those?
I think the Redskins are in a position where they have to start him. When you give up what they did to get him then you must grow with him good and bad. Plus I the fan base it self is not going to want to wait long.
…So what happens if Cousins is a better all around QB than RG3?…are the skins still obligated to start him cause they gave so much to get him?, even if they know Cousins will give them a better chance to win games…
From all accounts, including Shanny, Griffin is already the starter. If Cousins was our 1st pick, he probably still would be behind Grossman. Cousins will be the eventual backup, supplanting Grossman probably next year. And for argument sake, lets say Cousins is better. Shanny’s ego wouldn’t let him play over Griffin anyway.
Good point, plus if Cousins does turn out to be a good pro, skins look like geniuses cause he would be good trade bait…
Exactly. I think the goal in a perfect world is to have RG3 succeed, and have Cousins look very good when he does play in preseason and spot minutes. Get his value up in a year or two, and try and trade back into the 2nd or 3rd round for the picks they gave up
